Other Info/Overall Personality: The best way to describe Niko is self-absorbed, smart-mouthed, and insensitive. He's a sarcastic little bastard that takes great pleasure in being obnoxious. Basically, the world revolves around him. Everything he does is for his own best interest, even if it involves getting someone killed in the process. He's an insufferable ass and most people hate his guts, usually for a good reason. You can tell him a sad story about your past or something and he'll laugh it off and might even tell you that you're a pansy. On top of that, he'll feel oh-so-proud of himself when he's able to piss you off. He likes having power over whether someone's happy or not. That being said, he's very controlling and becomes almost violent when things don't go his way. Niko is comparable to a locust in the way that he often drains people of all their vitality and sanity just because it's in his genetic code to be destructive. But hey, it's all in good fun, right?
It's not to say he's constantly like that. Acting like a brat gets tiresome after a while. When he isn't acting like devil spawn, he's quite suave, charismatic, and charming. You have to be somewhat tolerable if you're in the crime business. But as usual, it's purely for his own best interest. Everything he does is for his own best interest. Of course, it's hardly surprising. He's part of the Russian mafia and it's quite literally a cutthroat business. He was raised to be this way and likely won't change. Extortion, murder, drug trafficking, insurance fraud, theft, and arson are all crimes that he has happily committed so it's very unlikely that he'll go from doing all that to being a good person. And it will all continue, especially because he's pretty much protected from the long arm of the law due to the crime family he's in.
Nikolai has a problem with impulse control. He does what he wants and to hell with the consequences. It doesn't matter if it's harmful to himself and he certainly doesn't care if it's harmful to others. And the fact that he his lack of remorse is mixed with severe pyromania makes him particularly hazardous.
At this point, one might hope that he has some sort of redeeming quality that just needs to be dug up by the right person. You might be hoping that deep down, he's really compassionate and loving and just needs someone to believe that there's a nice guy behind his volatile nature. Sorry to say, but none of that is true. He's a spiteful, selfish, conceited brat. Corruption practically oozes from this guy's pores. Though, there may be one bright light at the end of the very unpleasant tunnel that is Nikolai Romanov. He has a soft spot for his adopted sister, Tesla. In fact, he's completely and utterly devoted to her. Think Cesare & Lucrezia Borgia and you'll have the very uh...interesting relationship between Tesla and Nikolai. And if you happen to bring it up as a negative, you can expect to have an ice pick shoved in your jugular. It's quite a delicate subject.

History: Nikolai is from Russia with love. Born in Moscow, to be exact. He was born to the very powerful Romanov family. No, not the aristocratic Romanovs that were assassinated, but a crime family in Moscow that happened to go by the same name. They were one of the most powerful and influential crime families in the country and their leader, Vadim Romanov was one of the most feared drug lords in the crime world. Vadim was, at the time, married to a Siberian woman named Veronika. It was a relatively healthy marriage until Klavdiya Petrova entered the picture. She was your typical femme fatale, paid assassinations and arsenic poisonings included. Needless to say, she and Vadim got tangled up in a passionate affair. Within a few months, Vadim divorced Veronika to be with Klavdiya after she had Nikolai.
Niko was raised as a spoiled brat who wanted for nothing. Everything he wanted, he got. If you didn't give him what he wanted, then rest assured that he would steal it. From a young age, he was a mischievous little thug that took what he wanted and was never taught that it was wrong. Pick-pocketing, stealing from candy shops, and mouthing off to anyone and everyone was basically what his childhood consisted of. He has always acted like a self-entitled gangster prince and no one has ever been ballsy enough to tell the boss's kid to hold his tongue. Though, his attitude was almost encouraged by his mother because of the nature of the environment he was born into. He was pretty much taught the tricks of the trade by his mom, who was quite savvy when it came to the criminal business.
He spent most of his life not giving a damn about anyone. Not even his mother who had taught him so much. As far as he was concerned, she was a home-wrecking bitch that messed around with a married man. And of course, hanging around a bunch of guys who thought the same thing didn't help his opinion of her much. But when he was 18, that entire "I don't give a damn" mentality completely changed. His parents had decided to take in a teenage girl named Tesla after her parents were killed. Her innocence and purity provoked some kind of protective nature that was buried underneath his antagonistic exterior. He quickly grew very attached to her and she became the only person that he cared about.
Vadim - feeling like they were one big happy family of thugs - decided to propose to Klavdiya. Somehow, the news of their marriage had gotten around and reached the ears of Veronika, Vadim's ex-wife. She was a vengeful shrew and so she murdered Klavdiya the evening before their wedding when she was out for an evening walk. To escape the wrath of the Romanov patriarch, Veronika fled to America. In a fit of crazed rage and grief, Vadim seemed to become devoid of all reason and decided to follow his ex-wife to take revenge. All of this was to the dismay of Nikolai, who was perfectly fine with the life of a powerful mafia prince in Russia. One could imagine he was none to happy about his entire life being uprooted by the rage of his father, especially because it was over a woman he didn't give two shits about.
The Romanovs now reside in Aurora and Niko's father is completely obsessed with hunting down Veronika. Nikolai still doesn't give a damn about what his dad does, but he's essentially taken over what's left of the Russian mob since its' key figure decided to up and leave. He's feverishly trying to get the same power and influence in Aurora as his family had in Moscow because he's pretty certain they won't be returning home any time soon. But hey, at least he was able to get the family a fancy house with the drug money he earned.
