I know the further I go, The harder I try, only keeps my eyes closed. And somehow i'VE fallen in love With this middle ground at the cost of my soul. Yet I know, if I stepped aside, released the controls, you would open my eyes. That somehow, all of this mess is just an attempt to know the worth of my life..made of precious metals
The downside to co-owning a massive facility such as Regale Fox? Never having the time to ride. Madelynn's thoroughbred hadn't gotten nearly the amount of exercise that he should have. She'd been too busy with the every day workings of the stables, the paperwork, other peoples horses, that she'd hardly gotten time to spend with her own. However this day she did manage to find several hours of free time. The woman left the facility in the hands of her staff, she could only hope could keep the place running for a few hours during her absence. She was thrilled to be able to finally spend some time with her favorite chestnut. But she shouldn't have been riding at all.
Despite her attempts to ignore it it had become quite apparent to her that she was, in fact, pregnant. It couldn't have been more than several weeks along, at the most. She wouldn't show, nor would she bother to make the news public. The only (publicly) visible difference in the woman was her separation from alcohol. Which of course, was hardly noticeable in itself. She could feel it, though. To say she was an alcoholic would be only a tiny bit of an exaggeration, but she did like to drink and she wasn't all that fond of having to give it up for a child. In all honesty she wasn't fond of the pregnancy thing in general. Madelynn couldn't even manage her own sanity most days, this child would only make things ten times worse. Self preservation was her main focus, she could hardly even do that at the moment with the promise of someone depending on her. And that is why she would end up needing this ride. Ignoring the baby, or the fact that her boyfriend would probably murder her if he knew that she was doing something that had the faint possibility of harming the fetus. But even that would only happen if her gelding decided to throw her...which he hadn't tried to do in a while. So everything was okay, right?
The gelding was her best friend, her 'rock' of sorts. With him around she hardly had time to delve into her anxious mind, to worry. She seemed to have a lot of that going on, especially now the baby had begun toying with her hormones. Naturally the brunette would want to surround herself by her horse at all given opportunities but again, she'd been a little caught up. That would only make this outing twice as exciting.
She outfitted the large equine in in a rope halter as she lead him up to the arena and adjusted the horse by the mounting block. Now the anxiety would set in, pulse increasing dramatically as she stepped onto the block. It was always a stressful event, getting on bareback. The potential for something to go wrong was quite high here, whether it be a human fault or one of the horse. Fingers closed around the rope reins and the geldings red mane while she cast him a sideways glance. Eyeing him, warning him. She couldn't afford to have herself slip. "Stand, Noir." The woman reminded him in a gentle voice. Hardly a glance was thrown in her direction. This was a good thing, right? Her lips pursed, watching him closely for several more long moments, feeling the worry rise. Now a shaky breath would escape her, as in one quick motion, lifted herself onto the geldings freshly groomed back. Her legs fell into position, while her upper body eventually straightened. Now a pat would be offered to Noir in appreciation for his patience with her, a gentle reassurance with a shaking hand. "Good boy."
The thoroughbred only acknowledged her with a flick of an ear as he dropped his head in order to sniff the arena sand, in the process stretching out his back. A smile touched at Madelynn's features. She knew quite well the gelding enjoyed his tackless rides, even if they hadn't yet removed the halter. With Noir, less was more. He grew incredibly anxious with more than a snaffle bit in his mouth, and sometimes even then would avoid the contact. In turn she'd yielded to the animals wishes and had been surprised to see the quick change in him. Now it would be rare to see him with a bitted bridle at all, except for at shows of course.
The rider wrapped her legs around the geldings narrow barrel and cued him on gently. The gelding responded as told, keeping his head low as he began a lazy march around the arena's edge. Her fingers embedded themselves in his mane again as they took their little stroll, inhaling softly. Oh how much of a relief it was to be back to the simple life. Her eyes peeled themselves from his withers briefly in order to survey her surroundings. It seemed to be of a lazy day, luckily for her, this would only mean less to deal with when she got back into the office, and better yet, she might have been able to take the halter off. The adrenaline rush she received when so little restrained the horse was worth every dangerous moment. For the small amount of time she was on the horse, she could almost feel as if she didn't have any problems.
After allowing Noir to stretch out his athletic frame the woman lightly picked up the reins with a hand and clucked him into a steady working trot. With a grunt of effort the horse would respond eventually, rising into his normal flat-kneed gait. Luckily the woman had quite the bareback seat, only built from several years of dealing with Noir's finicky self. She would now separate her gaze from him again, casting a glance in the direction of the barn, mostly to make sure nobody needed her while she was on her little break. It seemed someone would inevitably need something, she'd just grown used to it.

COME LITTLE LIGHT come away to the darkness
Vivienne wasn't a completely daft woman when it came to the public outside world, she noticed the men that stared at her. It was hard not too, they treated her like she was some kind of model. She wasn't a fucking model, she was Vivienne Hughes. She had the misfortune of having long legs and a very small waist. She was no where near perfect, but apparently she was pretty enough to be a man's wet dream. That was very gross to think about, actually too gross to think about. Ew! In all honesty, Vivienne was not a party girl. Well, she did party. But, she was mostly a horse obsessed girl, that landed a dream job as a stable manager. She didn't have the kind of money to own a stable, being a manager of one was second best. She really liked the place she was working at, the variety of horses there was good, and she honestly didn't mind the work. She got to see her horse Leo every single day, unfortunately that did not mean she got the time to ride him everyday, but the amount of time she did was actually quite frequent. She made sure not to let him rest too long, knowing Leo by now, she knew it wasn't a good idea to let him sit in his stall for too long. It wasn't good for any horse really, and Vivienne preferred to keep her stallion in top shape. Sometimes Vivienne had to consider getting someone to ride him for her, she worked a busy job, only getting a saturday off every now and then. It was expected though with being a stable manager, at least the hours weren't too long.
Today was actually one of her days off, and instead of avoiding the barn she had decided to come and give Leo some attention. The stallion needed to be in excellent position when the next show came up, really excited to show him for the first time here in Los Angeles. The stallion nickered at her soon as she entered the barn, frowning slightly when he started prancing in his stall, had it been really that long? She grabbed the stallion's lead rope, snapping it on, and efficiently leading the stallion out of his stall. Leo's ears were pricked forward, walking at a fast pace which was a little bit too much for Vivi. She jerked on his lead chain to emphasize that he needed to calm down some, deciding that she would definitely be lunging him before she got on. She wasn't going to risk breaking her neck, and it was obvious that Leo had a lot of unspent energy. He was well behaved, but stallions were unpredictable creatures..She was not in any form going to risk it. She grabbed the lunge line and whip, putting it to the side, she tacked the stallion up first. She then grabbed the items she had put to the side, and proceeded to lead Leo to the arena. She quickly noticed that there was someone else in there, but she was positive the arena was made for multiple horses, after all, it wouldn't make much sense for it to be one horse only, and the place didn't have the room for so many arenas.
She observed the horse and rider, noticing that there was no saddle. Vivienne was feeling quite nervous about entering the arena now, wondering if it was such a good idea. She wasn't worried about Leo, he was quite used to geldings by now. Vivi decided that it would be wise for her to ask the woman, for the sake of avoiding any potential accidents. She hated the anxiety that suddenly consumed her and ate her up inside. She waited for the woman to ride by again, and then proceeded to say. "Excuse me?" It was loud enough so the woman could hear her, recognizing the woman as her boss. It had not occurred to her that this was Madelynn until now. Leo, the massive giant he was stood there impatiently, prancing in step practically. | WORDS: idk SHORT NOTES |

No one can unring this bell, Unsound this alarm, unbreak my heart new... God knows, I am dissonance. Waiting to be swiftly pulled into tune. I’ll go anywhere you want, anywhere you want, anywhere you want me. I know the further I go, The harder I try, only keeps my eyes closed. And somehow I’ve fallen in love with this middle ground at the cost of my soul.
Normally she wouldn't bother spending her time around humans at all, especially in her free time due to the simple fact that she just plain didn't like them. She could very well pretend to, but especially with the majority of the owners being barn witches, she wasn't going to like it. Now it was her job to pretend to get along with people so that's what she'd do. But... not at the moment.
For now she would spend what little time she had with her horse and enjoy the solitude in which she found herself in. It wouldn't be long before she had to head back up to the barn for more paperwork and arguments with irritated horse owners. A quiet breath escaped her at the thought. It was a wonderful job, but a bit difficult to worry about when her mood was about as unstable as well.. she was. One moment she'd be laughing, the next wanting to rip somebody's head off. And well, it was hard apologizing for her behavior without telling the entire world that she was pregnant. But what else was she to do, have people leave? At least when she was pregnant she had an excuse for accidentally being an ass.
The horse and rider continued on throughout the arena at the steady trot, eventually the well balanced woman allowed the reins to slide from her hand to lay on her geldings mane, a small smile rising across her face. Actually being able to trust a beast as large as Noir, knowing him like the back of her hand, it was a wonderful feeling. He was about the only one she could truly trust, as sad as that may seem. The only one she she knew would never purposefully ditch her, or hurt her. Horses were all innocent in her own eyes, aggression and bad habits were only formed through miscommunication and inadequate training, at least from her experiences.
Luckily aggression never came easily to Noir, he was too much of a big puppy dog to be honest. And, having almost trained him from the ground up, she knew his habits, his quirks. Down to being able to predict a spook from the moment she pulled him out of the field. Although it sounds nearly impossible, she literally knew her horse like a best friend. Negative traits and all.
One of his best traits however would be his unwavering need to please. Even when uncomfortable he would look to his rider for support to guide him through the sticky spot. It would seem this was one of those times. Upon turning the corner the gelding caught sight of the new arrivals, perhaps from his lack of exercise the animal's eyes grew wide, stiffening and jerking to the side. The woman felt her brow furrow as she clung to the horses slick hide, instinctively burying a hand in his mane. "Easy." She breathed out, only feeling the tension in her muscles and a heavy heartbeat from pure terror. Most likely from the prospect of falling, the overwhelming instinct to protect her abdomen causing her spare hand to fly to her stomach. Luckily the thoroughbred stood as instructed, turning to focus on the two by the gate with flaring nostrils. As he calmed the woman released the reins again, pressing a leg into his side and instructing him to shift and return back to the gate. Her eyes lightly trailed over the woman and the anxious horse at her side, recalling the name of her barn manager. "You need me?" She asked, pausing to mutter a quite 'whoa' to her gelding as he arms fell to her side. "What's up?" The brunette sent Vivienne a reassuring smile, recognizing an anxious face when she saw one.

COME LITTLE LIGHT come away to the darkness
Perhaps it was just the fact that her Leo was a stallion, but Vivienne was feeling very nervous. And, Vivienne was very accustomed to that feeling by now. The worry of potentially losing everything she loved was a constant worry for Vivienne, and it wasn’t something she actually had to worry about. She had a stable job, and certainly had enough money now to own a few horses of her own. And, that should have been convincing enough, but it wasn’t. The stallion pranced in place, whinnying towards the gelding in the arena. The stallion’s nostrils flaring as it took in all the interesting scents around him, losing complete interest in the gelding. She smiled slightly, knowing that Leo was very well behaved for what he was. The woman’s gelding seemed to be a thoroughbred, she could be wrong, but Vivienne was pretty confident she’d recognize a thoroughbred when she saw one. The gelding was quite large in size, a horse Vivienne would feel comfortable riding. In all technicalities, any horse over fourteen hands was big enough to hold her, but that didn’t mean it was comfortable. She preferred the horses she rode to be over sixteen hands, and she had gotten a wonderful bonus with Leo. The stallion was over seventeen hands, and she thought him to at least be seventeen point two hands if not more.
He was massive, and she rode him... It was a long way from the ground, and could be somewhat dangerous, not to mention it was dangerous. But, she for some reason or the other was willing to take the risk. She couldn’t hop on his back whenever she wanted to, that required a mounting block, and he was that tall compared to her five feet nine inches. But, for how big he was, Leo was actually a gentle giant for the most part, but there was the fact that he wasn’t gelded that Vivienne had no choice but to weigh in. Her stomach did a somersault inside as she watched Madelynn start to approach her, and she had no idea why she was so nervous. She was just going to ask a simple question, and be done with it, simple as that. Vivienne felt the need to get and know this woman, she rode horses, and that was all Vivienne needed to be interested in befriending this woman, they had something in common. And, she was quite desperate to make friends at this moment in time, lonely at night with nothing to do…It was very unlike Vivienne to be without a friend, and it was downright depressing for her. Leo nudged her gently with his muzzle as if to say ‘What’s the hold up?’ She smiled at him, and patted him on the shoulder. “You need me?” The woman asked, and Vivienne self-consciously blushed at the question, thinking that Madelynn didn’t remember that it was her day off today. She felt bad about bothering the woman when it was so obvious she was enjoying a peaceful ride. And, it was exactly what Vivienne wanted, riding being the only thing that truly calmed her down ever.
“Whats up?” The woman spoke again, and her cheeks turned red wondering if she had taken that long to reply. “Well, not exactly… Its my day off today. Leo needs to be lunged before I ride him, he’s got too much energy… Hard to find the time to ride at times.” She paused for a minute before continuing with what she had to say. “I don’t want to disrupt your ride though, is your horse cool with me taking Leo in there to lunge him?” Well, it had taken her awhile to get to the point, how idiotic of her. She shrugged it off though, determined not to care what the woman thought of her, thinking that it didn’t matter. “My boy’s pretty good around other horses.” She decided to add that in, in case that was a concern of Maddy’s… Hoping that it would all be okay.. | WORDS: ? Perhaps one of the better traits of the retired racehorse was its social nature. Or at least, the ones she'd met. Having been exposed to countless amounts of different horses, on and off the track, she found they often felt them to be more clingy than other horses, and most definitely more competitive. Her own horse was no different. He longed for the company of his own kind and even in it would could still find others to make friends with.
Madelynn could almost wish she could be the same way. Wouldn't life be so much easier if she could be like him? To be able to make all of the friends in the world, but more importantly, to trust? Life would also be easier if all of the humans she'd ever came into contact with hadn't attempted to ruin her, but her list of complaints about her life in general seemed to have no end, her social interactions wouldn't either.
But as for Noir? He didn't have a problem. Even now she felt the gelding dance impatiently, longing to meet the the other equine on the other side of the fence, but maintaining his manners nonetheless. His race horse tendencies were still prevalent in his every day behaviors, impatience being one of them, but for the most part had been trained out of; after all Madelynn had owned him for several years by this point. The woman laid a hand on the animals shoulder and scratched it soothingly, but to his dismay she was not going to let him approach the stallion. Perhaps well behaved but given the circumstances she preferred not to end up on the ground should things go sideways.
Madelynn watched the woman with vague curiosity as to what she had to say, and after running her eyes over what she held in her hands had an inkling as to what it was. She could remember the 'lunging' days like they were yesterday, back when Nior hadn't a concept in the world as to what ground manners were, nor how to contain his energy. He'd since been reduced into the docile creature he was presently, straining his neck in order to sniff the stallion. "I remember those days." Madelynn smiled a bit, putting on a friendly face for the nearly nervous looking woman.
Upon hearing the woman's question she shook her head lightly and gestured towards the antsy horse beneath her. "No, not at all, in fact I think he behaves better with someone in here with him." She picked up the lead rope off of the horses neck and moved him from the gate so they could enter before telling him to stand not too far off. The gelding huffed reluctantly, ears occasionally flicking into the direction of their new acquaintances. Then, releasing a breath of her own Madelynn returned attention to Vivienne and her horse. "I probably shouldn't be riding anyways, but," She shrugged her shoulders and her smile grew a bit though her eyes glittered, perhaps the only sign that all was not right with her world.. she'd grown pretty decent at hiding it if she so pleased. "Can't ignore what you love, right?"
