Essential Information
Appearance: With his curly hair (which varies between dark blonde and light brown with the time of year and sun exposure) and slender frame, it is unlikely that J.J will be getting voted as hottie of the year anytime soon although he is by no means bad looking. While he is slender, his shoulders are slightly broader than his frame and he has a nice muscle mass which has toned nicely due to the hard work of the stable.
He has good skin, although the pale tone means that unless he is careful he is prone to burning and a face which is well put together - round with large, slightly down-turned eyes which seem to change between blue and green with the light; a narrow nose in proportion with his other features; and a pale mouth with a thin upper lip and thicker lower lip. Curved eyebrows, the color of his dark gold hair in summer, lie nicely over his eyes and could be said to be a little thin to be masculine.
J.J is usually found in blue jeans with plain shirts and t-shirts - he does not favor in-your-face patterns and band logos - with plain, black cowboy boots and either a black or white cowboy hat (depending on his outfit). He is always clean-shaven, believing anything else to be scruffy. When he is not wearing his hat he often has hat-hair.
Although it is rarely seen, J.J does have a tattoo - a greyscale bronc horse on his upper right arm.
Personality: J.J is fiercely independent; he likes to do things on his own and hates to accept help from anyone - it's almost like the very act of being unable to do something himself is a blow to his pride. As a result, he can sometimes come across as stubborn and ungrateful. He's more likely to suffer in silence, and potentially lose everything, than admit to as issue.
He is hard working and responsible, which are traits which help him in his working life. He has a real passion for horses and his career and will do whatever he can to progress. Although he is more likely to be found working alone he will take advice from more experienced riders, albeit grudgingly.
J.J is actually quite an outgoing guy, he loves to be around others and enjoys (particularly) the company of women. His lack of self-righteousness and willing to help those in needs makes him likable and he has often been described as kind. He isn't likely to date easily though, he wants to be sure he has found the right girl and would hate to get a reputation as a womanizer.
Despite being outgoing, he does value his own space. Oftentimes he will detach himself to be alone. His house is always clean and presentable, and he hates laziness in any way.
Likes: Company, horses, western riding, working, being useful
Dislikes: People that live in fantasy-land, being idle, accepting help, abusive people
Strengths: Independent, hard working, sociable, fearless
Weaknesses: Stubborn/rigid, expects a lot from people
History: J.J. doesn't come from L.A originally, in fact it is a long way from his original home. He was born in a small, gated community near Calgery in Alberta. The people who lived there were generally the rich and privileged (with a few exceptions) and he was no different. While his parents hadn't been born rich, his father had made a lot of money in the oil industry while his mother was an investment banker who had become highly successful at a relatively young age. They had met in high school and married young. Unlike many young marriages, things actually worked out and J.J was their first child of three - his brother Matthew was born a year later, and his sister Amira several years after that.
Despite the money his family had, J.J. wasn't exactly spoiled as a child - his parents believed that handing things to their children on a silver platter just because they had the resources would do more harm than good (although Amira was a little more spoiled than the boys). He had to do chores if he wanted things and if he didn't do a good enough job then he wasn't getting it. There were only two things which his parents did that might be different to the average family - firstly, they paid for him to get into a good, private school and private tutors to ensure the best education; secondly, they actively encouraged him to ride from a young age although they pushed him toward the more respectable english styles and, in particular, show jumping. They brought expensive horses and paid for the best trainers in the hopes of pushing him to the top, ignoring the fact that J.J. was much more interested in the western styles and had several times forced them to attend rodeos out of sheer curiosity.
He was popular in school, although clearly not one of the jocks he had a lot of friends. He had a few girlfriends, but things never got beyond kissing (not that he will ever admit that to anyone). In the early years he always had a high GPA, usually close to 4.0, but once he hit his more rebellious stage this slipped a little although it was never low. His parents, of course, blamed the fact that he had joined his school's rodeo club. At this point, he had also stopped riding english style in pursuit of his own desires.
His parents were highly against the new turn their son's life was taking. He had swapped his smart clothing and designer swag for the simple outfits he would come to favor in his later life and spent more and more time away from the community. They tried many things to sway this change in direction but the more they fought it the more he became determined to do what he wanted and not what his parents thought he should. Eventually, however, they realized what they were doing and gave in - buying him Gold On The Run as a yearling in the hopes that with the right training perhaps their son could be the top of the western game. The colt was known as Ace in the stable.
When J.J. graduated high school at eighteen he had a lot of options available to him - his grades were good enough to get him offers to some good colleges, and it was clear his parents were disappointed that he had chose not to take any of them up. Instead, he started to persue the rodeo circuit with mixed results and eventually left the community he had grown up in all together.
For a year he drifted from place to place, working where he could as he followed the circuit before arriving in L.A. With Lazy Z Ranch looking for staff, it seemed as good a place as any to put down roots and so he stayed. He doesn't know anyone at this point, a fact he intends to change.
