[nospaces] [attr="class","ws-official"] [attr="class","official-title"]HORSE OWNERSHIP [attr="class","official-header"]buying and selling horses [attr="class","official-content"]
GETTING YOUR FIRST HORSE[break] Getting your very first horse is completely simple. When creating a character, you automatically get the option to make ONE horse right then and there. If you decide not to, and want a horse later you're going to have to either buy a horse from the shop, or from another member's character. And if you decide you want more horses you can still buy/sell/trade horses as you wish. [break][break] If your character's job is as a student or a show rider, they are assigned a horse by the stable and they may treat these horses as their own, excluding breeding and selling the horse. [break][break] NOTE: In order for your horse to be applicable for showing in competitions, it MUST be registered with the registry that corresponds to it's chosen discipline, or else it will be automatically disqualified. Horses that one does not plan to ever enter in shows are not required to be registered, unless they are breeding stock. [break][break]
REGISTERING HORSES[break] Horses whom you plan to enter in shows must be entered in either the english, western or racing registry. The registry in which you choose to register your horse depends on his/her discipline. If you do not plan to show the horse at all whatsoever, it does not need to be registered.
Also choose your horse's first event wisely, horses may enter any event under his discipline, however he will only get 5 bonus points added to his overall score by competing in an event that he was registered with, or trained under.[break]
Want to get your horse trained on more than one event? Head to the training boards, a trainer can surely help you out with that! You may also train a horse in two disciplines (allowing double registration) but this is very costly.[break][break]
BUYING HORSES[break] Buying a horse is extremely easy. The main thing that you're going to need when it comes to buying a horse is money, which you earn from posting, winning shows, and selling other horses. Horses may be bought in a number of ways, which you'll find below:[break] - Purchase a horse from the site shop[break] - Purchase a horse from the animal shelter[break] - Purchase a horse from another member[break] [break] [break]
SELLING HORSES[break] Selling horses is just as easy as buying a horse. Although the process is a bit more straightforward. In order to sell a horse, you post an ad in the sales barn. You may use any kind of format or template, but make sure to include vital information regarding the horse such as it's name, breed, gender, lineage, winnings, that kind of stuff. You can even get more creative by detailing your horse's personality, or even role playing out selling the horse. Another option is to surrender your horse at the animal shelter, but you will not receive money for doing so.[break][break]
TRANSFERRING MONEY[break] When you buy or sell a horse and need money transferred between accounts, simply notify a staff member via PM and they will get the money transferred ASAP. [nospaces] [attr="class","ws-official"] [attr="class","official-title"]HORSE BREEDING [attr="class","official-header"]producing your next champion [attr="class","official-content"]
BASICS[break] - First things first, only stables may breed stallions and mares together. [break] - In order for a non-stable owner to breed their own stallion to their own mares, they must first purchase a breeding license. [break] - Non-stable owners without a breeding license will have to breed their mares to a stallion owned by either 1) a stable's stud or 2) another member with a breeder's license. [break] - A horse's stud availability can be found in their respective registries and of course in the studbook[break][break]
BREEDING SEASON[break] - Breeding: SPRING & SUMMER[break] - Foaling: SUMMER & FALL[break] - AGES TO 2 YEARS: 1 RL month (3 wks) after being foaled[break] All foals regardless of birth date, will age to 2 YEARS one real life month (3 weeks) after being foaled. They will age normally the following spring (by 1 year) [break][break]
AGING OF FOALS[break] - Foals age a bit differently here at Free Rein instead of waiting an entire site year to cycle around , foals will be born as foals and will stay that way for THREE RL weeks. After that, they will become two years of age. Just so you don't have to wait forever to have your foals at competing age. They will age to three the upcoming season of spring. Do note that training is still required to both tame your youngsters and break them in for riding.[BREAK][BREAK]
PROSPECTS[break] - When a staff member decides upon a unborn foal's stats, they are able to tell what kind of 'prospect' the foal will be. If it has high stats in a particular category, they'll be able to tell you whether that foal will make a good show jumping prospect, barrel racing prospect, etc. based on that information.[break][break]
RECOMMENDATIONS[break] - It is highly recommended that you sell foals amongst other members[break]

[nospaces] [attr="class","ws-official"] [attr="class","official-title"]HORSE SHOWING & STATS [attr="class","official-header"]horse showing, stats & events [attr="class","official-content"] SHOWING HORSES && STAT POINTS[break] First off, you can enter horse shows by filling out the form in the show office when a show is available. However, do remember to register your horse or they will be disqualified from competing. And if you're wondering if your horse can be double registered, the answer is yes.[break][break] Horses may start competing at the age of two [break][break] Now STAT points are basically a set of skills for your horses expressed in a numerical value. We have SIX stats and they are as follows:[break][break] Stats have a maximum cap of 100 points each. After that the horse is 'maxed out' in that stat. Fully maxed horses are worth more than unmaxed horses
Certain breeds have an even lower cap on certain stats, refer to the breed chart for more information[BREAK] SPEED - How fast a horse can run [break] STAMINA - A horse's endurance [break] SMARTS - How well a horse remembers commands [break] AGILITY - How flexible a horse is in its movement [break] JUMP - How well and how high a horse jumps [break] TAMENESS - How tame the horse is, foals get a 0 [break] CONFORMATION - A horse's structure and the ideal body type that fits its breed [break][break]
[break][break] DISCIPLINES & EVENTS[break] Horses are judged based on their points that are respective of their events. If a group of horses have the same amount of points needed, we will look to bonus points given from presentation points, health, gender (geldings only) and so forth. The MAJOR points for certain events are listed below. And don't worry, staff members update the STATS, so you don't have to worry about them and you may find your horse's stats in the horse registry. The more STATS a horse has, the more he/she is worth[break][break][break] A horse's event chosen upon creation, purchase, etc. will allow him to gain five bonus points when entered in that event. If he is entered in any other event, he will not gain a bonus. To train your horse in another event, seek out a trainer who offers trainings in that event. Also, attempting to show your horse in a different discipline entirely different from his own will result in a penalty as he is at a severe disadvantage.[break][break] English[BREAK] Western[BREAK] Racing[BREAK] Halter[BREAK] * breed restricted [break][break] EVENT | MAJOR STAT(s) | Dressage | Smarts, Conformation and Agility | Show Jumping | Speed, Stamina, Jump | 3 Day Eventing | Speed, Stamina, Smarts, Jump | Huntseat | Smarts and Tameness | Barrel Racing | Speed and Agility | Calf Roping | Agility, Speed and Smarts | Reining | Smarts and Agility | Western Pleasure | Smarts, Agility and Tameness | * Flat Racing | Speed and Stamina | * Steeplechase | Stamina, Jump and Agility | Halter [Sporthorse Class] | Agility, Jump, Tameness, Conformation | Halter [Stockhorse Class] | Stamina, Smarts, Tameness, Conformation | Halter [Racing Bred Class] | Speed, Stamina, Tameness, Conformation |

[nospaces] [attr="class","ws-official"] [attr="class","official-title"]HORSE HEALTH [attr="class","official-header"]health and injuries [attr="class","official-content"]
Health[break] This is pretty simple, this is your horse's health. You may find the status of your horse's health in his respective registry and by his name. The health statuses are as follows:[break] Perfect - bonus in shows[break] In Foal/Pregnant - unable to compete in shows[break] Nursing - can compete in halter shows only[break] Injured [break] Retired - unable to compete in shows[break][break]
Obviously, horses in perfect health will score better than a injured horses. These horses will gain some extra bonus points while a injured horse will lose some points. Sound simple? Because it is![break][break]
Injuries[break] A horse can be injured only through shows and through a random event via the FR Randomizer. A show judge will determine whether or not the horse gets injured during the show and will reveal if a horse has been injured in the show results after the show has ended.[break][break]
An injured horse will be labeled as such in the registry along with it's remaining recovery time. Injuries can last from up to 1-3 weeks , which is determined by the show judge. While a injured horse can still compete, they will have a few points deducted because of their injured state, which in return lengthens their recovery time.[break][break]
AGING[break] - It is mandatory for horses to age by 1 year every Spring[break] - Members may purchase youth or aging potions from the shop to alter the horse's age[break] - Foals age to 2 years after 3 weeks of being foaled[break] - A horse begins to decrease in performing ability at the age of 15 on FR[break] - Horses are forced into retirement at the age of 20, members may choose to retire horses earlier[break] - Stallions and broodmares may still breed in their retirement[break] - No horse is permitted to live past the age of twenty five[break]
