Essential Information
Appearance: The first most apparent characteristic would be her petite frame, standing at a tiny 5'2". From a combination of being premature at birth and a dedication to staying light for her career choice, she's abnormally small. Her meals are few and far between therefore maintaining the normal jockey build, for the most part. She is a woman and does have a some amount of curves, however is built more in muscle if anything. Given that she is so small and dealing with antsy race horses is a strenuous job she makes up for it in weight training. Although appearing scrawny she's a force to be reckoned with, sporting decently sized biceps (for a woman) and the faint tracing of abs along her stomach.
Her blonde hair falls in loose waves and is usually thrown up in some sort of messy bun while at the barn, a combination of keeping it out of her face and an attempt to make her look less than the pretty woman she is. In the same regard she refuses to wear make up on the job, feeling as if it is going to make her look weak in a mostly male dominated career. Off the track however she more or less allows herself to go about the average female routine; make up, having a wardrobe of t-shirts and jeans and the occasional summer dress.
Personality: Ali's more or less addicted to her career. Not only attending the barn on a daily basis but adapting her life around it in order to become the 'perfect' jockey. She keeps her meals small and to the point as well as her body in proper working order, all for the purpose of winning a race. This is a woman that holds herself at a high standard in terms of her riding abilities, her own mind being her worst critic. Self pitying, perhaps, but it keeps her focused and determined to do a better job the next time. She is especially competitive and, if the point hasn't been proven, she does what it takes to win. Perhaps not to the extent of sacrificing the horses health but has no qualms with sacrificing her own.
She often gets caught up in gambles and bets, or worse, fights, just in an attempt to defend her beliefs. Not only in terms of the races but in the general public, being especially sensitive to the topics of sexism or her sexual orientation. In this way she can almost be a little spitfire, but that's not necessarily always a bad thing. Ali's somewhat bold in nature, always up for a challenge and quite the adrenaline junkie. Doing off the wall things such as sky diving or bungee cording just for a thrill would hardly be beyond her. It's almost a wonder as to why she hasn't already gotten trampled or killed doing such things. She's always pushing the button, testing the limit, all for some added excitement.
She finds herself to be sociable and enjoys others company but can sometimes be a bit too friendly, spreading gossip or turning things around on the speaker (if it helps her to win she's all down for being sly). However she has a smile that can light a room. She's quite sarcastic and knows how to have fun, especially so in terms of finding companionship. In relationships she finds herself to be restless and unable to focus on one person, although she desperately wants to, she just puts her job before all others. As long as the partner is aware of her undying devotion to the thoroughbreds they won't have a problem, but once they eventually ask her to choose one or the other...well the answer will always obvious to her.
History: Born into the world three months early Ali was a sickly baby, having a low survival rate. She spent the first weeks of her life behind an incubator, however (obviously) pulled her way through. Because of this she would always be a little smaller than the other children her age, a little more fragile, but it made her all that stronger in spirit. From a young age she found a desire to make herself something great, wishing to fly away from her 'useless' and tiny body.
It certainly didn't help to grow up under the shadow of three older brothers who inadvertently belittled her because of her size. She took it as the strong little girl she was, but behind closed doors she knew that they were right. That was until she found it. She was five years old at the time, staring up at the tv screen as their family watched a big race. It was a fascinating sport in itself, little Ali thoroughly enjoyed watching the beautiful animals fly across the screen at the speed of light. And that's when she knew it was what she wanted to be.
At first being teased for such an outrageously dangerous and impossible career she found herself wishing for it regardless. The thrill of sitting atop a 1200lb beast while galloping 45mph was too great to deny, she had to have it. Therefore she would. They weren't a particularly rich family but found it in their pocket to throw out a couple of lessons every now and again. She was the dare devil beginner that wanted to ride the big and crazy horses, trot before it was time, canter before she could sit the trot. It was her life calling, and she knew it.
She received her first horse by the time she was 15, a conformationally challenged beast they called 'Sid', under the premise that he was to become a 3-day eventer. Oh how she tried, and although jumping was fun, she found herself out on the cross country course the majority of the time flying over terrifyingly solid fences. She was scolded severely, "You're going to break his leg!", or, "You could get hurt!" But obviously she wouldn't care.
Eventually the girl grew too big for Sid and they sold him on to buy an OTTB which was the closest thing to a race horse she could get. She spent her time on open expanses of land taking her at a full gallop. And then she realized it was time to go forth in her career of choice. Finding a racing stable and selling off her thoroughbred to follow her dream of sorts, she spent her time working as a stable hand and apprenticing under a jockey. An exercise rider at first, she eventually got the chance to go all out. Her parents disapproved but being the little rebel she was she didn't care, if anything she was glad to get the attention from them considering her brothers had grown up to become productive members of society. She escaped them at the ripe age of 18 and ran off to live in the apartment above the barn in order to get closer to her goal.
In the present the woman has become a somewhat successful jockey, attaining a job at Rose Park and continuing to allow her obsession to flourish.
