WORDS: 1032 | TAG: red <3 | NOTES: ENJOY Vera wasn't soft. No, not in her appearance. She had to keep up a 'tough gal' sort of attitude or else somebody would dare take advantage of her. Men picked on the weak just because they were easy to manipulate but now she had made sure nobody would try to toy with her. Her hard shell of ice she had developed around herself had proved to be worth her time and effort. Of course she did have her soft spots. It was young children and animals. She loved them to death. It was probably how she got Priya, her beloved pup.
He could of looked like a hairy rat but he was good company. A little irritating, sure, but she could learn to deal with it. The shifter had rescued him from the Animal Shelter. Heaven forbid if he landed in an abusive home, or worst, probably somebody who ate dogs!... okay the last part was a bit of a stretch but it could happen!
She took it into consideration and after the lists of pros and cons, she slipped into the shelter and put on her puppy face, allowing her guard to have their cracks for a few moments before calmly entering the dog section of the shelter. Slowly turning into her human form did she slide the lock to the left and allowed the door to swing open.
Quickly shifting back into her dog form, she grabbed the confused and scared puppy by the scruff and darted out. Nobody knew what happened, how, or why, but they saw flurries of fur flying out the door. She kept sprinting forward, muscles coiling beneath her pelt. Her thick fur was waving behind her lithe frame. She kept her head raised, jaws clamped around the curly fur inside her mouth. She could feel her throat tightening and the adrenaline pumping in her veins. Blue eyes stared ahead wide with a small smile curled on her muzzle. Causing trouble was something she loved to perform. It was like an act performed with mischief.
Vera slowly stopped as the shrill cries of the humans stopped as well. She plopped the puppy onto the ground, huffing puffs of air through her lungs. "H-Hey..." She panted, tongue lolling out. "Y-You doing okay, l-little Tyke?" She asked, but the dog was soon shaking with fear and confusion, backing up and whining. The border collie slowly snorted and turned around, trudging away guiltily. She had just taken the poor child out of sanctuary and now it was alone and scare. It didn't even want her.. or so she thought.
Every puppy hated sadness, comforting people was easy. The male child slowly looked up, his shaking seized as he spotted the tail between her legs and head down. Gradually raising to his tiny paws he jogged after the female adult. His nose traveled to sniff at her heel and jump in front of her playfully. He yipped happily before shoving his muzzle into her cheek. Vera pulled her head back surprisingly, ears flicked back briefly. She slowly relaxed before placing a paw gently on his nose. "I'll call you... Priya. How's that sound?" The female asked with a small smile. He swiftly shook his head up and down. "Yeah, yeah yeah!" He exclaimed, tail quickly wagging. She let out a snort of amusement before nudging him backwards. "C'mon let's go find some food." She encouraged before prancing ahead with the pup jogging after her.
She held her head raised proudly as she kept her blue eyes alert for any other stray dogs lurking around. They were everywhere, the mangy mutts were disgusting. Hey she was a human living as a dog but that didn't mean she couldn't take the time to clean herself. "Stick close to me, Pri." The female warned. They both knew from experience of being together that aggressive or dominant males would love to try and take over a poor female and her child. "Yes Mum..." He lowered his voice to a whisper, walking next to the cautious border collie.
Vera saw the watching eyes of different animals. Rats, birds, cats. Yes they lived in alley-ways too. Narrowed icy blue eyes flickered around the shadows with slitted pupils. She heard a few felines and a couple squeaks of rats. Her tail shot out to slap itself across Priya's chest. "Wait." She commanded quietly before lowering herself to the ground. Her bony shoulders poked out from underneath her pelt, softening her breathing. She stretched out her thin legs slowly before pushing off her back-legs and leaping forward to slam her paws on a rat, muzzle striking forward to clamp her fangs into it.
Slowly raising her lean skull, rodent dangling from her jaws she turned around to see the distant looming figure of another canine slowly coming up behind her child. Ears flicked back and eyes wide, she dropped the rat to rush forward and jump over Priya, hackles raised and lips curled back in a snarl. "Priya! Run!" She snapped before whipping around and darting forward, grabbing the already running pup in her jaws and rushing ahead. She heard the pounding paw-steps behind her, the blood roaring in her ears, and her lungs heaving heavily.
Her skinny body kept sprinting ahead, lean skull bobbing up and down. Air puffed through her nose heavily. She heard the whimpering and whining of her child as he dangled underneath her maws. She glanced backwards to still see the oncoming form but maybe that was a mistake because she soon crashed into a trash can. Her body backed up into the metal object, trash flopping onto her body. She tucked the puppy between her front legs, lowering the upper half of her body. She covered the child with her fluffy chest, tail curled around her rump. She pulled her lips backed, the skin on top of her muzzle and along her eyebrows crinkling and pursing together. "Stay back!" She growled viciously, jaws snapping together. Please, Jesus if you're there, send somebody... anybody. Help us.
So stop time right here In the moonlight cause I don't wanna ever close my eyes.

Braille Graves
TAG: CHESHIRE COTTON Words: 690. NOTES: sorry this is bad but i'm tired so take it He was the epitome of a miserable soul if anyone had ever seen one. Walking through his life with a furrowed brow and a particularly nasty attitude, built only from years of lies and abandonment. No connections to anyone, or perhaps, unable to keep connections, no fancy career to keep him centered.. he was simply empty. He had been for a long time in fact, growing up under the false pretenses, unable to piece himself into a specific category in any one occasion. However sympathy was out of the question. He didn't need, nor want, to hear others pity for his unfortunate life. In fact it was fairly obvious in his day to day interactions, snapping up everyone that passed him, that he just simply didn't want to talk.
His curt nature was why he found his pet pythons to be entirely comforting. In more ways than not they were similar, cold, aggressive, to the point. They could understand him whereas no other could. It was also why he'd found himself in such a putrid career, pushing others around for the Queen of Hell herself, getting little to no satisfaction from anything he did. The only pleasure? Alcohol.
Among other things of course, Braille was a man that kept himself busy. When he wasn't attempting to flirt, lifting weights, or getting into fights, he was often found with a beer in his hand (aggressive and an alcoholic, man of the year, go Braille). However it wasn't as if he'd wished for himself to be in that situation, it was simply Life's way of telling him that he probably shouldn't have existed. And he was just fine with that conclusion. Not a depressed soul by any means, but he knew his place.
Upon reaching the end of his shift he slouched at the bar in pursuit of the bitter liquid, similarly to what he did most nights. Whether from impatience or a dislike of the bar tender they were all freaks he soon rose and strode out with said beer in hand instead. The chill of night greeted him like the scales of his reptiles, gliding down the exposed flesh of his arm and causing goosebumps where it passed. He felt at home here, if only from that trait. He strode quietly, his unapproachable demeanor ever present on his set jaw, which only separated for the occasional swig of his beer. Tonight was not a night in which he felt the need to socialize at all, therefore he would make it fairly obvious.
He reached the corner of his workplace, the brick wall vibrating with the faint beat of music coming from within. He paused, slouching against the rough surface and bringing the cool bottle to his lips once more. Soon a metallic, all too familiar, crash split the silence of the night into two. Damn animals. If not from the urgent and somewhat vicious sounding growls he wouldn't have given it a second glance, his shift was over, it was no longer his job to clean up after other peoples messes. Though He did have a soft side for animals, hell, he was one, therefore he continued on into the alley.
He squinted now against the dull lighting, finding it hard for his pupils to adjust to said darkness where's Dallas when you need her. He paused, naturally, until he could see the scene before him. The shuffling and guttural animal noises had grown louder as he moved onward again, eyes squinting with increasing urgency. No matter what it was, if it was found rummaging through the trash he had all ideas his fellow coworkers wouldn't have any qualms with sending them all to the pound, or worse. Finally taking in the shapes of the scene. Dogs? His expression lightened ever so slightly as it lingered on the more huddled of the two, body littered with trash, but would only rip into scowl at spotting the more dominant that cornered them. "Get out of here." He hissed, his foot finding a small stone which was then kicked lightly at the larger male.

WORDS: 498 | TAG: red <3 | NOTES: it's okay <3 i gotchu Vera was a tough girl, sure, but when it came to Priya she was all sorts of soft. She was a motherly person at heart. Had a tender spot for abandoned children. She was once abandoned and probably still was. By whom? By her past so called 'pack mates'. Made her lips curl at the thought of the cowardly mutts. Society didn't have the right to call themselves humane when all they did was hurt people. All they did was treat everybody who wasn't like them like crap. Nobody cared for animal rights. Treated cows like they didn't know what pain and emotions are. Treated them in a way so they kept their meat soft until they chopped them, killing them and taking them away from their suffering. How was she any different? She was a human disguised in a dog.... or was she a dog disguised a human? Could hardly call her human, considering she hated the damn people. They didn't understand what true pain was. The only pain they knew was that Mommy or Daddy didn't get the right iPhone.
"Get out of here." She heard a masculine voice snarl. Head jerked up to lift her flopped ears surprisingly. The male dog slowly snorted, backing up with a parting growl. Too weak to try and fight a human, he slunk away. The Border Collie slowly crawled out of the fallen trash can, the litter slipping off her now dirty pelt. Ears flicked back briefly to let heavy breathing puff through her nose. Craning her head, the female gently urged her Pup out of the can. Tongue quietly lapped at the trash covered and curly coat. He was a whimpering mess... poor little child didn't know of what lied behind other's hearts. What lurked behind another's shadows. She released a quietly sigh before gently nuzzling the child's soft cheek. "it's okay... it's okay. We're okay." She murmured into the thick fur. Ice blue eyes looked up to their savior tenderly.
She saw the gruff-like face. The broad jawline and the large body. He looked like more of a grumpy person than anything else, furrowed eyebrows. Her jaws quietly parted to release a soft whimper. Glimmering blue eyes stared up into his own ice blue orbs. Vera extended a muzzle quietly to sniff at his foot politely. Slowly and hesitantly she brushed her cold nose against his finger tips as if she was silently asking for him to pet her. Why? She wasn't entirely sure why she was but maybe a thanks for saving her from being beaten down in front of her 'son'. The canine let out a soft whimper before motioning Priya to come forward, to which he obliged happily. She once more let out a whine, offering a small smile to the towering man.
So stop time right here In the moonlight cause I don't wanna ever close my eyes.
