Gwen was still struggling with moving on. She couldn't find it in her heart to trudge through life without Quintin. Call it weak but she called it love. It was the feeling of falling too hard too fast. Everything came with a price. Her weakness had cost her other half's life and left her children without their true and biological father. She would have to tell them one day just how cruel this world was and she would teach them how to survive it. How to be strong and have thick skin. It seemed time changed all. Once upon a time she was just a sniveling little girl, hiding in her dark apartment curled up with her dog and wrapped in a cocoon made of a blanket. But now she was an oncoming mother as well as a developing warrior. Fighting through life was hard when it could cause pain worst than daggers through your heart but hurt just as much as flame tearing off your skin bit by bit. Life was horrendous like that. And some people liked the thrill of having to battle through it day after day. But not her. Being rejected silently by all wasn't the easiest and it certainly wouldn't be forgotten. Teaching her children to go through it was her first priority along with helping Archaic. To hell with her weakness, she was going to become the strong survivor she had always been. And maybe it'll be for the better this way. To let Quintin know that she would be doing alright and let him rest easy knowing she could still go on.
The unicorn drifted off into the woods, her Shire-breed body moving through the trees, ears flicked back sulkily. Her belly swayed side to side as she held her thick skull high. Ice blue eyes locked forward, her feathering dragged across the forest ground. Wavy dark brown locks dragged against the floor as she strode through the vegetation. She would come out here often, feeling more at home in the woods. It was like some odd sense of comfort that she couldn't deny. The solitary and silence was something she knew for so long that it had become apart of her. Serenity was more important to her than being surrounded by others. She found no joy nor happiness in what another's company could bring her. Humans were all the same, ignorant and foolish. Too blinded by what they deemed as reason to let their narrow-minds broaden to the outside world. Their reasoning got her no where except back to square one... almost all alone. A snort blew out of her nares at the thought before bending her head down to let her lips gather at the grass below. Maybe this new life wouldn't be too bad... Quintin was still with her through and through. She might not of seen him but she knew where he was. He was still her everything, even if he couldn't be with her psychically. He was still the ground beneath her feet and the sky above her. The open world was still him to her. She could not deny the presence she still felt lingering with her wherever she went. It was as if he had only left yesterday, and yet it had only been weeks that seemed to last years.
Walking forward once more, her ears perked forward. She could still remember the small and soft steps of Quintin as he walked beside her in his lithe and scrawny deer form. His stick-like legs and his nimble frame. She still remembered every part of him, antlers and all. His dark-rimmed irises, black and shaggy hair, the bright aqua-marine eyes that contrasted so sharply to his near white skin. He was so imperfectly perfect. How something so broken could reflect something so beautiful was beyond her comprehension yet she did not try to figure it out. Quintin was who he was and that was a good thing too. Even if he hadn't seen it in himself, she had. And she would of done anything to show him what she saw. To see the world that she saw through his eyes. All she wanted to show him was the sunlight but forever had not been long enough. He was gone, before she even knew it. And in a blink of an eye her world had come tumbling down just as it always had. When she was just about to tell him that they could start a life together, he was gone- snap. Her legs shot out so they stood firmly apart from her body, head jerking upwards to peer frighteningly around the scene. She could hardly see past the vast vegetation and towering trees. She didn't know what had caused that noise but she sure as hell wasn't going to stick around to find out!
Galloping forward, she stared ahead, nares flaring wildly as lungs expanded rapidly beneath her chest. Her heart leaped in her throat as her hooves slammed against the ground with each step. Adrenaline coursed through her as she kept dashing ahead, ears pressed against her skull. Her hoof came crashing into a river, causing her to fall forward with a quietened nicker of surprise. Eyes wide, she caught herself with her other hoof, panting hard. Tenderly picking up her foot out of the water she slid out of the rushing water with ease. Droplets slipped down her darkly colored pelt before the draft mare laid down next to a tree. Head laid down on her large legs with a groan. "Idiot." She muttered under her breath before shaking out her head. Gwen got up once more and walked forward slowly, dull eyes looking ahead. Ah well everybody made mistakes every once in a while right? It was probably just some dumb squirrel anyway. And besides whatever it was she could surely fight. Y'know as cocky as that sounded.
And there it was. She had searched for it all day and finally it was here. Breaking free of the forest area, the trees started to thin out to give way to a lake. But it wasn't the water that interested her. It was what settled next to it that she had sought for. She craned her head to gaze up at the towering mountain, disappearing into the white and wispy clouds above. Her mouth gaped open slightly, blue eyes glittering with awe. It was positively beautiful and it brought an odd calmness. With a content sigh, she settled next to the clear waters of the lake, dipping her muzzle into the waters and gulping down the cooling liquid. And that's when it hit.
Her muscles coiled near her belly, a whinny of shock bellowing from her. It was pain, unbearable pain ripping through her. A groan slipped hoarsely from her before her head dropped to the ground. Her nostrils flared rapidly as her heart race picked up. She couldn't give birth. Not out here. They would be too far from home, she would never make it. It seemed the beauty had no meaning if her babies died of exhaustion or predators out here. Crawling forward weakly, her legs shakily stood to let her body tower from the ground in a wobbly manner. She jogged forward, allowing the pain to overwhelm her and grip her brain. Her eyes blinked as her pupils threatened to dilate, hooves picking up high. She kept moving forward despite the unbearable and rippling pain. It had been a few moments before she gave out and laid on the ground, letting out a groan.
~
She had laid there for hours, staring at the little baby deers in disbelief. There was a brown and white spotted normal fawn who was normal in size and a scrawny white fawn who was as pure as snow with a scrawny frame and abnormally small compared to his sister. Tears had slid down her cheeks for god knows how long, just staring at the two little children, ears back. Was reincarnation possible? Could Quintin's soul be transferred to his own son? They looked so much alike... How could it be? It was nearly uncanny! Her muzzle gently nuzzled her daughter's forehead. "Chloe.. and.." Her blue eyes flicked to her son... her dear child. "Quin.. your name is Quin..." The equine murmured before softly grooming them. "My dear children."
