Summer evening breeze is blue Drawing voices deep from you Lead by a beating heart, What a year and what a night, What terrifying The smell of elephant shit was always the first thing she noticed when she stepped into a zoo. Like, why? Did the elephants feel like they had to tell the entire world that they existed, and they they were the biggest, baddest things in the zoo? Sienna snorted quietly as she shoved a set of folded bills underneath the window and received her ticket, her entry into the zoo.
It almost seemed like everyone in the zoo had someone to go with, except for her of course. Her only friend in the entire world was a horse, and she liked it that way. A horse was something that Dallas couldn't take from her, hopefully. She couldn't even know love because of that satanic witch. And as much as she hated to admit it? She had never even gotten to know the touch of a man because of that woman. Why did Dallas loathe her so? Who knows, or cares. Karma was a bitch, however, and Sienna would make sure that her middle name was Karma.
She looked quite uncomfortable as people surged passed her, eager to see some baby animal shit on itself and look at everyone with big, ignorant eyes. She'd rather pass, and she took this time to continue strolling forward, lost in her own thoughts. Around every corner she tensed, she saw a dark haired, olive toned female and quickly mistook her for Dallas. It made her wary, it made her afraid, it turned her cowardly. She wanted to get revenge on Dallas so badly, but if she froze up now from lookalikes, how would she act face to ace?
Sienna found herself needing to take a seat on one of the uncomfortable wooden benches, covering one of her hands with another as it began to tremble, a note to a panic attack. "So pathetic, fucking damn it." She cursed under her breath, seemingly angry with herself more than anything. This was all of Dallas' fault, the woman couldn't even take out one single day to enjoy herself in a zoo, let alone in her life. Sometimes, she wished she could just drop dead, but life wasn't that generous.

It was a question that only appeared to hit him after he'd already driven there and paid for a ticket after seeing it advertised on a billboard. Guess he was a sucker for mainstream, cheesy advertisements and animals puns that told him to "Gopher it!" and visit. He was an idiot and it became even more apparent that he had no business being here as he looked at the young families milling about and pointing at the animals...animals that lazed about all day on their lazy asses and shat everywhere. His entrance fee was going to feed this animals, literally flushing money down the toilet and that alone almost made him turn around immediately and exit, but then he figured he might as well get his money's worth.
He meandered from exhibit to exhibit, all the while thinking about the tasks and chores that awaited him back at Rose Park Stable. He was settling in fine at the horse racing establishment and it was nice to have his cousin close and about, even if they did get overly competitive. He looked about the crowd periodically, not finding anyone or anything particularly amusing. He sighed, his feet suddenly growing tired from all the walking and made a mental note to just take a load off and sit for a bit whenever he saw the next bench.
His thoughts turned back to Internal Affair, his juvenile filly and the other mounts he would be riding. His work consumed his life...it was all he had and he worked damn hard to be good at it...to be the best. Besides, it wasn't like he had pressing relationship issues to be worried or concerned with. Family was not in the picture, nor did he ever wish to see his brothers again. He cared only for his cousin and his sister, the rest of his family cold go to hell for all he cared. They had never done a thing to help or support him, looking down on their white collar son doing blue collar work. Bunch of pricks.. That was his family. He shook his head in frustration. Why the hell am I even thinking about them.... He inwardly chastised himself and decided it was time to find that seat. He spotted a vendor and purchased a bottle of water, it was hot as balls outside, as he then looked for a seat. Pale blue eyes surveyed the area and spotted a bench right across from the lion exhibit. He began to head in that direction when he spotted someone else occupying the bench, but he didn't care. He wanted to sit and damn it, he was going to. He walked with an easy and confident stride, in his worn denim and white cotton v-neck. He closed the gap quickly and sat down just as colorful words flew out of beautiful mouth. "So pathetic, fucking damn it." He cocked an eyebrow in surprise at her, wondering if it had been directed at him, but one look told him it wasn't he who was the recipient of those words. He took her in. She was a beautiful woman, but there was a haunted and pained look about her that stirred a protective instinct within him...a feeling he quickly squashed down with sarcasm in an attempt to lighten the mood.
"I have to say, that's the first time someone has said that about me to my face." His voice dripped with dry sarcasm, but he sensed this woman wasn't completely stable. His conscience wouldn't allow him to be too sharp with her. "I'm mean I rather think I'm a great guy...as long as you don't get to know me that is. But, you must already be seeing through my bullshit." he teased and gave her a winning wink...trying to draw her out of her shell...this panic he saw ruling her. He looked about for any hidden danger casually. Maybe she was hiding from an ex-lover? Hell. His instincts told him to leave her the hell alone. Ignore and walk away. But then, he'd never said he was smart. "My name is Aaron...and you are?"

Summer evening breeze is blue Drawing voices deep from you Lead by a beating heart, What a year and what a night, What terrifying The sound of another individual in painfully close proximity, (by her standards) caused the woman to flinch, as though she was anticipating the man to harm her in some way. Although when she did not feel infliction of pain upon her frame, she looked almost in surprise. She gazed around fearfully, as though expecting Dallas to slither around a corner, yelling all sorts of curses and reprimands for her behavior. But there was no Dallas, at least not for now.
Hearing the man's comment, the woman stilled her shaking hands, feeling bad that she came off in such a way. "N-n-no, I wasn't referring to you! I'm sorry, I'm sorry I didn't mean it. She looked around hesitantly, practically shaking. It was evident that her worst fear wasn't going to pop out of nowhere, but one could never be too sure. At the man's wink, however, she appeared to calm down, if only slightly. "No..No I'm sure you're a great guy. I..uh..yes I'm sure." She struggled to recompose herself, her eyes never quite meeting the man's gaze.
It was a shame that this woman feared men solely because of another woman. What kind of world was she even living in? "Aaron.." She repeated quietly, the name didn't sound familiar perhaps he didn't know Dallas, or vice versa. "Sienna. A..are you waiting for someone? You..usually don't see people coming to the zoo by themselves...then again look at me." She sighed. Despite her demeanor, she didn't want a pity party, nor did she want anyone to fight her battles for her.
Sienna straightened herself in her seat, her gaze shifting towards one of the nearby fountains where the occasional fish leaped out of the waters before diving back into the water. Even now, she appeared as though she refused to let her guard down, she was afraid to. It was almost like she was an abused animal, but wasn't she? "B-besides, your face seems pretty charming." She stated quietly when it was clear that there wasn't anyone lurking around a corner.

He stared at her with an unflinching gaze, his pale irises taking in every single detail about her. He didn't feel concern per say, no that would be too thoughtful and considerate and he knew he didn't have time to be those things, but he wasn't a complete monster. There wasn't a crime either for admiring a pretty face. She had beautiful blonde hair and wide open blue eyes. It wasn't hard to read her with her emotions playing through her eyes like a highlight reel. He decided then and there that he wouldn't be his true sarcastic self, no....It took one look at her to see that one wrong misplaced word to her would send her into a mental breakdown. He couldn't help, but wonder what had made her this way, call it human curiosity more than anything, for it certainly wasn't compassion...at least he'd never admit that.
Caring about other people just opened the door for a world of hurt and hurt from others was something that he just couldn't handle, it would undo him. For all of his pride, arrogance, sarcasm and bravado...he was still human, still a man that needed relationships, but he had to take them on his terms. He attempted a reassuring smile, but he was certain it probably looked more like a smirk or a sneer. Eh, what the hell ever. He nodded as though to encourage her speech when she spoke his name and he laughed at her when she asked the same question he'd asked himself when he'd bought a ticket. "Hell if I know why I'm here. You're right this is a place you don't really come to alone, but I had the day off and I fell victim to publicity stunts....so here I am paying money to watch animals laze about on their asses. Though...the penguins I must say...they were at least amusing." And then she'd mentioned his face and his smile faded slightly, but not totally as a more fake facade of arrogance settled in. He couldn't encourage her to be kind. He couldn't afford to let someone in, even a stranger and so her reverted to his MO - arrogant asshole.
"Don't be taken in by this face doll," he refused to use her name, to make this a more personable conversation, he didn't need friendships, companionship, "Believe me when I tell you that his face is the nicest thing about me." And then he turned the tables quickly. This didn't need to be about him. He didn't need to reveal shit to her and he wouldn't. "Tell me. Why are you here alone? Running away from some crazy ex? Hiding in the zoo where little families are...Makes me think you're hiding from the devil...Not that it's any of my concern." He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly and looked away from her, his gaze settling back on the lions across the way, sunbathing without a care in the world. Lucky caged animals. The cost of freedom was sometimes too high...eh, but what did he know...

Summer evening breeze is blue Drawing voices deep from you Lead by a beating heart, What a year and what a night, What terrifying Everything would have had a chance of running smoothly, that is until the man's tone changed, his demeanor shifting. She looked as though she wanted to vanish from existence at the man's response to what she had thought was a compliment. I guess some people don't like those. She thought to herself as she chewed her lip in deep thought. "Sorry, I thought that even the most spiteful of people would want a compliment. Then again, what do I know. I know nothing." She sighed, never the matter. It wasn't like the man was going to remember her ten seconds from now anyway.
So much for her shitty luck. At the man's inquiry, however, she froze her eyes reluctantly meeting his gaze. "An ex? Oh, I've never had the pleasure of being in a relationship." She almost sounded sad about the fact. "But hiding from the devil? Might as well be. No, it's..ah..I'm sure you're only asking for the sake to say something. But, I was constantly abused, tortured even by a woman in the past. She's quite..sociopathic I guess. She runs Puzzles now, I want to get revenge somehow..but I'm too much of a fucking nervous wreck to do shit." Her voice changed to a tone of anger, her fists balling up as though she wished she could hit something.
When the man looked away from her, escaping her gaze, she couldn't help but to take the chance to glimpse at his facials. Her gaze studied the shape of his face, his neck, torso, what have you. She had never observed a man in such a manner before, for Dallas would always take care to reprimand her for such unacceptable behavior.
Realizing she had been studying the man for more than she would have liked, she hurried to look away, shifting her attention to a group of Asian Elephants who lumbered around lazily. Seeing the caged animals almost made her relate to her own predicament, but at least she was on the outside world. But when one lived in fear each and every day, and awoke from their slumber due to nightmares, that wasn't any sort of freedom. "Ah, coming to the zoo just makes me relate to myself I suppose. Although at least I'm not in a cage, available for everyone to poke fun at you and throw things at you. Sorry, I've really taken your time away from doing whatever it is that you'd prefer to be doing." The woman got up from her seat, although where was she to go? She would wander aimlessly around the zoo grounds, not even paying any attention to the animals. Afterwards she would return home only to repeat the same washed out process of fearing every step she took throughout the day.

"Sorry, I thought that even the most spiteful of people would want a compliment. Then again, what do I know. I know nothing." Fucking Christ, what was she a bleeding heart? He felt like a complete douchebag, but at the same time he knew he couldn't crack, he couldn't show compassion, but curiosity like he realized was a nice substitute and he held her gaze for the first time as he asked her why she was here. Like he thought. Her eyes were crystal sky blue, open depths a man could lost in. She was so lost, so broken and vulnerable and that's when he'd looked away to watch the animals. He couldn't afford to start to care and then her bleeding heart cracked open before him and he silently cursed inwardly at himself. He was an asshole and he knew it, but he wasn't a monster and the more she talked the angrier he felt himself becoming and that's when he'd looked at her. He heard the rising anger in her voice and it was on that common note he connected with her. Damn it.
He looked away again, his strong jaw muscles clenching and unclenching in rage. Rage at whoever this jerk-off was and rage at himself for giving two fucks worth of care. This girl was trouble pure and simple. He could feel it deep within the marrow of his bones. His self-preservation instincts were screaming at him to get up and leave. he didn't need to know her life's problems, to be made aware of her situation because with awareness came responsibility and damn it if he wasn't beginning to feel the weight of it already beginning to settle in on his shoulders and around his neck like a noose. She began to talk of cages and he couldn't help, but understand where she was coming from. Granted, his family hadn't abused him, but restricted expectations and trying to control anyone's life could feel like a cage no matter the form in which it came. His cage had made him what he was, cold and hard, just as hers was making her feel week. She stood and he suddenly stood with her, an angry defiance in his eyes as he stepped forward and grabbed her shoulders, lightly, but with slight pressure willing her to look into his eyes.
"Listen. This isn't my place and you don't know me from Adam, but I'm going to tell you something I wish someone would have told me back when I was in a cage of my own." The intense emotions whirled in eyes eyes and saturated his voice. He was probably scaring her to death, but his violence wasn't directed at her...hell he wouldn't know how to be "soft" with her anyways..."Screw the fucking cage. You are stronger than you think and that anger you showed me earlier...hold it close and let it be your strength and then slap that fucking bitch right where it hurts..where it counts because no one...no one should tell you how to live your life." He paused and hesitated as he pulled back his muscled arms to his side and looked around nonchalantly before he uttered his next phrase so quietly it was almost a mumble, "Because you're worth more than that. You're better than that." He snorted as if to lighten the mood and crossed his arms casually in front of him, "You could always hang out around me. I'm sure my assholeish tendencies would definitely begin to rub off on you," he said with a teasing wink, but found he meant those words. Did he care about her? No. But did he want someone to be caged like he'd been? Hell no. It was all about a matter of principle of course....
