Essential Information
Appearance: Loren has a face and eyes that speak more about himself and his mood than his words ever will. Deep blue eyes that will just as easily shine with laughter as they will with anger. His thick eyebrows are often furrowed together in a scowl. He always has a small amount of facial hair, never letting it grow too long or shaving it off completely. His dark brown hair is cut short, only being long enough to style up out of his face.
He has a riders build, strong and lean upper body with well formed abs and long toned legs. He is doesn’t worry about bulking up, just in keeping his body fit and in riding shape. He dresses well and to the occasion, the most relaxed attire you will see him in outside of his home is a pair of jeans and runners.
A scar runs along his collar bone from a broken collar bone that needed surgery.
Personality: Loren is complex, he is first and foremost goal orientated. Everything he does is geared towards his latest conquest, be that a horse, a show, job or even a girl. He will not stop till he gets it. It can make him incredibly short sighted and short tempered.
Driven, he drives himself harder than any coach or disapproving parent around. His own biggest critique he has to be on top. He will often drive himself too hard, taking it out on all those around him. This makes him difficult to befriend. The people in his life come second to his job and his goals.
Playboy, his pony club days are well behind him. But his attitude towards girls hasn’t changed much. He is charming when he wants to be, an incredibly smooth talker who knows exactly what to say. He doesn’t have time to play the game anymore, to chase after every new girl like he used to. But he is a natural flirt, not one to pass up an opportunity should it present itself. No one is off limits.
Troubled, his alcoholic days are not so far behind him and there is nothing more he would like to still do but sink into a bottle after a stressful day. He has issues surrounding abandonment and is likely to spend money when he is feeling down.
Arrogant, he is very confident in his abilities and doesn’t hesitate to show that. Although it is easy to bring him down a few pegs, he is not one to brush of an embarrassed slight. He can hold a grudge till the end of time and isn’t easy to cool down once you have ticked him off.
A mans man. I secretly think he is hiding some gay tendencies. But in any case he relates better to men than he does women. He has always had one or two females who can cope with his crap. The others have never made it past his initial walls. When he is around close friends he relaxes a little bit. A bit more carefree and open.
History:
Loren was born into a wealthy family. Horses had been apart of his life from the very beginning. Along side several other sports and activities. He never had much time for anything outside of competition and practising. Winning had played a big role in his life from day one. At first it was his parents pushing him to be the best, then he took over for them and became his biggest critique. It was never good enough to simply place. He had to be at the top in everything he did. School, footy, tennis. Team orientated sports or individual sports. It didn’t matter.
His parents encouraged the behaviour and gave him whatever he needed to succeed. Everything but their own time and attention. Outside of sport he had nothing, not a friend or pet to go to. That was when he started to lean more towards his equestrian ventures than his other activities. The eventing world had a tight knit community that formed his family. His horses became companions not just equipment. By the time he was 21 he had dropped all his other sports and was focused completely on his eventing.
His drinking habit started at a young age, somewhere between fifteen and sixteen. It didn’t become a problem however till he was in his late teens and travelling the show circuit in Europe. For any show circuit in this world brings with it tons of alcohol and a huge party scene. By the time he returned home he was more driven than ever, he had something to prove. Most of all he wanted some recognition, he wanted to be noticed. They didn’t notice the drinking and the competition wins didn’t bring much extra notice either. They did throw as much money as they needed at him. As many horses as he wanted, imported geldings, proven broodmares. He had his own international trainers. He was the most spoilt child on the circuit. But none of it helped. He was good without all that, he knew he was good. It seemed however that no one else seemed to.
When he was nineteen in Germany he was out on the cross country course with his girlfriend. They had travelled together for the better part of six months. She was as spontaneous as he was driven. He liked control and she liked freedom. He was powerless to say no to her however and it was why they were both out recklessly galloping across a pitch black course. He hadn’t been able to be the bigger person and keep her home and safe. So concerned with losing her, he had let her go. He had watched her horse fall underneath her. Had watched her body go instantly limp and then watched her getting lowered into the ambulance. That night still gives him nightmares. The language barrier, the sirens, the lights. The horse going down and the screams. Mostly his.
The best coaches, the fanciest clinics couldn’t buy him what he wanted the most. Our poor lost boy wanted only the attention of those closest to him. So he begun to pour his life into his work, he purchased his own horses. Started to train his own yearlings and compete them from the ground up. He spent less time drinking and more times making connections. He was finding something that made not only others appreciate him for, but something he was proud for. He started to work for it, it wasn’t just about winning anymore. Now it was about winning on something that he had created, something that no one could take away from him. It was his hard work that finally gave him the recognition he had always wanted.
His parents still play a part in his life, they helped him buy Olden Dale Farms after all. But they are just as clue less to their sons needs as ever. He has left their country and their world to make a name for himself somewhere else. Away from the taint his younger years has left him with.
