Essential Information
Appearance: Overall, Austin appears to be rather plain, perhaps even a little bland, with no definitive features. He sports a general rounded nature to his facials, aside from his partially emphasised jaw line, and an odd, darkly toned hazel-green irises. He certainly holds a partially muscular physique, though he has a slight chubbiness around the waist, so to speak, relying more on brawn over brain the vast majority of the time. He sports an ashen brown colouration to his hair and beard, and his preference to formal attire is purely the result of his job. He hates to leave the house without his hat, for some strange reason.
Personality: Austin sports a heavily varied personality, depending on the state of the situation at hand. Generally, he tends to be a caring, an perhaps even in some cases likeable, man, placing others before himself more often than not. However, this is perpetually faltered by his incredibly short temper leading him to easily get carried away under the influence of anger, acting without considering the consequence. He has clearly proven himself loyal to those who treat him well, but evidently unforgiving towards those who don't; willing to take risks for the few he holds dear, but also willing to allow those who have wronged him to suffer for it. Due to the previously mentioned short temper, he is commonly viewed as being irrational, preferring a much more hands-on approach than pausing to think up a plan. He can, at times, be vicious and slightly morally unstable, usually when under the influence of large amounts of pressure of many contrasting emotions. He's certainly not afraid to speak his mind, no matter how insulting he may be, and has a somewhat independent attitude, despising having to ask for help. On that note, he has an obvious for anything to do with hospitals and doctors, due to the fact that they make him feel vulnerable and raw; a childhood phobia he never really got over. So, be it a paper cut or a bullet, you'll never see him there. He has slacker written all over him; he despises doing paperwork, and would much prefer to be out doing something valuable with his time than scribbling down notes on paper, though he knows it's necessary in his line of work.
History: Austin's life began with a reluctant mother, his father having blatantly refused to have the child aborted, despite the times not being the best to raise a child. While his mother worked full time to support the small family, thus barely having time to worry about of care for the child, he busied himself with taking care of the family dog, a lazy pitbull by the name of Steele, helping his father fiddle around with car parts, and going on fishing trips. His father's harsh parenting methods could certainly be questioned, but it was all Austin had at the time. The youngster was boarded in school a year or two late, due to his mother's reluctance, and actually made substantial progress among his peers, surprising his teachers and parents, even securing a good amount of friends in his time there. School life was as to be expected, with very few incidents; he kept his head down and got on with it, rather than causing any trouble.
That was when his little brother, Shane, was born. To be honest, when he first latex eyes on the baby, he hated the snivelling brat, and acted as if he didn't exist, ignoring the baby. He quickly began to notice that his mother was quite happy to pay that child attention, more so than him; he was jealous, and became rather cling to his father in the meantime. However, as the pair grew, they grew inseparable, sharing interests, dressing styles, friends, and things of the like. Both of them were utterly fascinated by the world of criminals and crime fighting, busying themselves with playing detective in the yard, even getting the family dog involved as a 'crime fighter extraordinaire', despite the fact that all the canid really did was lay on the couch or trot after the two boys. All in the imagination, as they say.
As the pair grew swiftly into teenagers, his father became much less interested in him, and got caught up at the bar more often than not. They were left in each other's company, becoming all the more independent as a result. Their priorities changed from impressing their parents or indulging in assisting their father to studied and school work, their grades rising as a result. They looked after the dog on their own, and more importantly, were forced to take care of themselves; in spite of that, they were still happy with their lifestyle, without a regret in the world. They balanced out their routine, their parents only seen a few times per day, and their father eventually upping out and leaving. It didn't cause him as much sadness as might have been expected, however, mostly due to the fact he barely saw the guy anyway.
It was a few years later, as he had grow to nineteen, that he met his high school sweetheart; a brunette named Lucy. Slowly, as his attention switched towards her, he drifted further from his brother. They began to argue more often, and stop speaking to each other throughout the day, their old games vanished from their minds. So, as their arguing reached its climax, an ended with a physical fight, he left his brother in the dust, and used what little money he could scratch together to purchase and apartment for him and Lucy, working as a plumber to bring in some temporary income. Lucy became pregnant soon after the purchase of the home, and after many moths of confusing mood swings and cravings, his beloved gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, of which they decided to name Clementine; from the moment he first led the squirming mass of flesh, he loved the child infinitely. He swore that he'd be better than his own parents were, and acted on that promise, being there for the girl as much as he possibly could. Under his influence, she grew fairly hands-on and tomboyish, but also learned to have respect and manners by her mother. Lucy and Clem were his world; he'd give anything for them at the time, and still would to this day.
The small family lived in peace for a good number of years, however, when Austin came home in a drunken rage after beig sacked from his job, him and Lucy argued viciously. After she made a remark about him being like his father, he'd demanded she left, and she did so willingly, walking to her mothers instead. He's fallen asleep on the couch afterwards, and as he awoke in the morning, he was greeted by a large hangover, the news blaring out on the television, something about a murder, and Clem sobbing in her room. Only then did he tune in to it; a green-eyed brunette shot in the alleys, identified as Lucy. He slid in to a deep depression, though he never stopped caring for his child, doing his best to help her get over the worst of it before even bothering about himself or his own emotions.
That was the motivation to become a policeman in the first place; the resurfacing hope that he would one day uncover her killer. Ten years down the line, the case has been abandoned, the killer never found, and with Clementine reaching the end of her teenage years, life is just as hectic as ever.
