Essential Information
Appearance: Standing at an easy five feet even and weighing a hundred pounds soaking weight, Naj is a skinny little thing, barely a feather on a horse's back. She has tiny hands and feet too, and is lithe and balanced, if not anywhere close to physically strong. She's in shape for her size and weight, if worryingly slender.
She has bright eyes, a honeyed amber colour and pale against her sun soaked and rather dark skin tone. She has numerous freckles, especially on her cheeks and shoulders, although they are everywhere from the amount of time she's spent in the sun. Her nose is wide and flat, almost nonexistent, even from the side. Her hair is a dark red, cropped short and closer to this hairstyle than anything else. She has a red and gold ear cuff shaped like this, but she takes it off if she's about to work with the horses, as mistakes happen and it's a rather large bangle to have ripped out.
Personality: Najwa is a passive soul, soft spoken and a very laid back person. She looks kind from an outside perspective, and indeed can be, but for the most part she is apathetic, mostly detached from most people and causes unless she truly cares about it. Horses and her studies are on this list, as well as anyone she gets close to.
In sharp contrast to that, she's endlessly curious, always full of questions about new things. Flighty, too, it's hard to keep her interest for long unless you are lucky or very interesting. She has a peculiar love for pretty things, be they people or objects, and her room is full of knickknacks and pretty baubles. This extends to herself, and she likes to be pretty, although it is not a sole matter of vanity, but fascination with the concept as well. Nevertheless, if you insult her looks, she'll be hurt.
A staunch pacifist, she is unwilling to hurt others. How this would hold up in defense of life and limb has yet to be tested. She will hit back with words if you try to hurt her, though, and has been known to make some cruel or senseless statements, although very rarely on purpose. More her awkward nature when it comes to small talk.
She loves philosophy and morality and all manners of psychology, and is likely to lapse into idle meandering through such topics if she does not feel engaged in the conversation. She is going to university for a philosophy major and a vocals/dance minor in addition to her current job.
She hopes to inherit the stables and yard from her family, and hopes to be good at running it. Najwa has an irrational and pathological fear of deep water and small spaces due to an incident as a young child that she has not totally gotten over.
She has a rather worrying habit with illicit substances, although none that has so far been caught out by her employers or her father. she is very carefully not to indulge in any proximity to times she might be on the back of a horse.
POSITIVE TRAITS- altruistic. laid back. honest. intelligent. upbeat.
NEUTRAL TRAITS- pacifist. curious. sheltered. sensitive.
NEGATIVE TRAITS- apathetic. detached. socially incompetent. vain. careless. spoiled.
History: Born to an initially very close couple, Najwa was a well loved and very sheltered child. Her father was an Arabic Muslim from Qatar, and her mother a black american. They both co-owned a rather well to do horse farm and stable, of which her mother was a skilled trainer and instructor, and her father the sponsor and official owner. She grew up among the stalls and hooves, and has been around horses all her life. Akhal Tekes, Throughbreds, Arabians and a couple of Marwari, it was a high profile stable and selective on who it let board between its walls.
She had a mostly normal childhood, but for the private school and daily lessons at horse riding she got from her mother personally. She did not make friends very well, but she had enough, more focused on her own little world than the company of others. She excelled in school, and both of her parents were very proud of her.
They went on a lot of trips, too, but that led to some decent troubles on it's own. She was nine when they went north to Canada. She wanted to see the moose and the polar bears, and her parents obliged. But there was a nasty sort of accident. Their boat tipped while canoeing, and while her parents were strong enough to stay close, her tiny form was pulled into the the rapids. Her mother, fearing for her daughter's life, let go and swam after her, but too slow. Najwa nearly drowned, and got a vicious set of bruises, a concussion and a broken arm for her troubles, but was saved from any more trouble by her mother catching her after the fact. Her father truly cracked down after that, determined too shelter his little girl and sole heir from any possible harm.
The trouble truly began when her father and mother began to disagree on a great many things, of which Najwa's raising was a great portion of it. Religion and schooling and her future were all in contention, with Neveaeh far more in favour of letting Najwa explore the world and everything to be seen, while Abdul deathly afraid of losing his daughter to the ways of the world and determined to keep her both safe and sheltered. Ultimately, this resulted in a divorce, one that was rather savage. The custody battle was a death match, and took a solid year before her father, with the support and the wealth to support her better, was awarded custody rights. her mother got visitation rights, and wasn't required to pay welfare, but the damage was done. A once loving family, possibly capable of parting ways peacefully was warped into bitter jealousy and resentment, even though neither of her parents were truly bad people. Eventually, her mother was forced away, and Najwa has not seen her since she was fourteen.
Najwa too was hurt by the long, tumultuous separation, just as she was heading into secondary school. She did not go off the rails, exactly, but she took part in a lot of behaviours that neither parent would have approved of. This is where she picked up her flirtation with a couple of the softer drugs, and while she is no addict, it is not good for her, either.
But she was a true natural, born and bred to ride, and her father was very proud of her. For her sixteenth birthday, she was given legal and total possession of her first horse, instead of one of the horses her father owned. A cremello Akhal Teke, given the name God's Whisper, informally called Wisp. She raised the foal from the ground up, and loves the steady stallion dearly.
Then, a new chapter in her life. On her father's request, she picked the local university in L.A, and took up a post there, although with company of the man her father hired to go with her, protective as ever. She is officially a student and show rider, in charge of God's Whisper as he is both to be further trained and the horse the Barn Manager assigns her to.
On the other hand, Najwa is making the best of her time out from under her father's protective and overbearing influence. She has officially shed her hijab and religion, much to her father's resigned dislike, and is making lots of friends in L.A.
