Birds born in cages think flying is a disease
PERSONALITY Stubbornly independent, Aideen has always been better at being an acquaintance than a friend. She is approachable and friendly, but acts in a way that lets people know not to try to get closer. If she’s not sleeping or talking to her spirit Alesdair, she probably has her headphones in, listening to punk music. She talks too fast, has a dry sense of humor, and buys her own drinks. When she’s had a good day you’ll find her drinking a gin and tonic with an orange wedge. If you see her drinking a Bloody Mary, you should keep your distance. Aideen is up for having going out and having fun, but others often end up sharing more about themselves than they mean to and knowing less about Aideen than they thought. That talent, coupled with her knack for reading emotions and eavesdropping, makes Aideen a great journalist. Unfortunately, she’s often stuck writing feel-good “news.” But Aideen can’t pull herself away from a good story. She sometimes finds herself in sticky situations because of her nosy (some would say meddlesome) nature. Other people’s chaos is Aideen’s entertainment. She doesn’t see morality as black and white, but believes that everyone has their own take on what is right and wrong. Nevertheless, she sometimes finds it hard to know where she stands. Aideen’s Ninja motorbike has no room for passengers, but that doesn’t bother her. Riding is as close as she can get to flying, and all her worries fade as she roars through the streets of LA, a red blur against steady traffic. Alesdair, a white gyrfalcon, is Aideen’s spirit, best friend, and only confidant. They often go camping so he can fly freely and she can get away from the crowds of the city. | LIKES People-watching Coffee (and Baileys) Autumn Candles Used bookstores Tater tots Nighttime DISLIKES Orders Absolutism Banjos Pet stores Slow drivers Injustice Flirts Clowns (don’t ask) | APPEARANCE Aideen is a willowy but sometimes awkward woman in her twenties, standing at 5’6”. She has a sweet face that hides her fiery personality and ginger red hair that makes her stand out from the crowd. Her Irish heritage is made even more obvious by her porcelain, freckle dusted skin and sea glass green eyes. Practical but stylish, Aideen can often be found wearing skinny jeans with a motorcycle jacket and boots. She’s fond of all things plaid, spiked, and worn. Still, she knows how to clean up and can even be glamorous when she wants to. Her lean body is deceivingly strong and agile, and she likes to push her physical boundaries and test herself. Aideen’s voice rings like wind chimes, but she can give a good tongue-lashing if you piss her off. To ward off potential suitors, she often wears a wedding band. She wears contacts, but changes to reading glasses at home. As an avid reader and journalist, she always carries a book to read and pen-and-pad to jot notes or overheard conversations. Aideen also has a secret fondness for fun pajamas, which Alesdair often pokes fun at her for. |

[PTab=BIOGRAPHY]
So, at any rate, it appears. But appearance is not reality
HISTORY
Aideen was born into a world of both order and chaos. Her father, a Lieutenant Colonel in the air force, was as stoic as he was reliable. Her mother was a flamboyant artist who saw every turn in the road as an adventure. She did her best to raise a daughter she hadn't planned on having.
Aideen's mother always supported her husband, saying that he did what he needed to in order to take care of the family. As her father liked to say, sometimes sacrifices had to be made. But things weren't so black and white for Aideen. Sure, getting to live in 14 states before she even went to college was cool, but it was no way to make lasting friendships. Being the new girl was rarely easy, and glasses and ginger hair didn't help.
As she grew, Aideen found comfort in stories. Whether on a bench at the playground or in her bedroom at home, she could be instantly transported to a place all her own. She longed for true friends and adventures like the ones she read about in her books.
On her eleventh birthday Aideen woke up to an empty house and a note on the kitchen table.

Mom
She wanted to fly away like Wendy in Peter Pan and never return. So she rode her bike to the woods, tears streaming down her freckled face. Peering into the edge of the forest she saw a mighty oak tree. She ran through the rough underbrush and climbed high up into the tree. She stood up, lungs filled with courage and ankles wobbling, and spread her arms. Then she heard a voice – one that was in her ears and in her mind all at once.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you. Might not turn out so well.”
Aideen gasped and spun around, causing her foot to slip. As she was falling she grabbed onto a branch. She screamed for help and the voice came again, telling her to stay calm and guiding her to safety. She looked around for its source, but all she saw was a large white falcon in the branches above.
“There’s no way it was you,” she said aloud, chuckling at the thought.
“And why is that?” the bird said, swooping down to face her. After that day Aideen never needed anyone but herself and Alesdair. And he was always there, safe inside a geode, which she eventually had made into a ring. As she moved around the country, Aideen encountered a myriad of people and became a skilled snooper. She heard and learned many things, but one idea stood out among the rest: no one is black and white. Everyone has their grey area. Alesdair did his best to keep Aideen from getting herself into trouble with her meddlesome ways, but couldn’t help but get curios himself at times.
As soon as she was done with high school, Aideen moved to the city she had always dreamt of – Los Angeles, California. After graduating from UCLA she got a job as a reporter at the LA Times, where she had interned during college, and settled into a studio apartment. It wasn’t luxurious, but that many people living so close together made for plenty of juicy stories. Still, Aideen and Alesdair both sensed there were bigger fish to fry in the vast metropolis of L.A., so they kept looking.
relationships
Alesdair is Aideen’s daemon, best friend, and only confidant. He is a wise bird who loves Aideen more than life itself and would do anything to protect her. Still, he enjoys Aideen’s escapades and often lets his mischievous side get the best of him. Alesdair is quite sarcastic and has a dry sense of humor just like Aideen. He is mostly white with black feathers, and has a wingspan of over 4 feet. He likes to periodically remind Aideen that his species is the largest of the falcons, considered royal by cultures throughout history. Alesdair spends much of his time in a geode ring that Aidden wears on her right hand, but they regularly communicate through telepathy.
Aideen is an only child and rarely speaks to her mother. Her father passed away when she was 20.
